"The Broken Circle Breakdown" is a Belgian movie currently nominated for the Oscar of Best Foreign Language film after it already received movie awards on many international festivals such as in Oostende (Belgium), in Kopenhagen, in Oslo, ... and Veerle Baetens won the European film award for the best actress as well as similar award in New York for her role.
The movie features a couple playing in a Bluegrass band.
In all honesty, I've not seen the movie yet and despite all the awards and outstanding reviews, I'm a bit afraid to view it as the story features the loss of their daughter and somehow I'm currently afraid for the emotions such a story will trigger. The image would be so beautiful but also so raw and painful. But more and more I think I should simply go and see it (and cry my tears out if I need to do so)...good thing about the Academy Award nomination is that they have released it again in Belgium to give people like me a new opportunity. Music features an important role and the single "If I needed you" has been on the radio constantly in Belgium, as well as some other gorgeous bluegrass music from the movie.
So now we all cross for them to win that deserved Academy Award!!
It was a gorgeous day today. We've apparently completely skipped winter. (or it's very late and still due to come since October was still summerlike and all 'winter' was fall like with typical rainy fallstorms). Plants surely belief that spring is around the corner.
Now at 5 months (!! ) his play-time is much more varied and involves precise grabbing & smacking & licking/biting things, rolling (mostly sideways, not often around), launching himself forward unexpectedly, pushing nearby buttons, attempting to grab his mirror image, watching tv or skype or himself on movies and babbling/commenting.
dEUS frontman Tom Barman sometimes launches himself in sideprojects (movie, music, ...). Together with DJ CJ Bolland he formed around 2004 "Magnus".
Since we are not getting any winter weather at all this year, I am wondering (together with the sprouting plants) if summer is around the corner soon. So here's appropriately their hit "Summer's Here".
If you want an ear worm, you must listen to riff in Humble Crumble. Unfortunately we don't hear a lot anymore from these catchy guys from the Galacticos. I wouldn't mind some more of these guitare riffs on my radio.
Then I had to leave to a course / exams to obtain some certifications I want to have. I had deliberately chosen an accelerated course but that meant that I had to prepare a lot (which I did) and had to study & do lots of homework in the evenings after a 12 h class day (which I did too). Pretty tiring. But on the exam days I got stomach flu. Oh yes, perfect timing. Fortunately I carried some drugs on me to drug me up for the duration of the exam.
Rest of the week I did not get better yet but started feeling weaker & weaker due to dehydration & lack of food. But I seem finally on the mend. With all weekend plans cancelled and some more rests, I hope to be back alive & kicking next week.
Mintzkov (once upon a time called Mintzkov Luna) is yet another winner of the Humo's rockrally featured here. They've been steadily active since 2000...not quite the most famous rock band of Belgium but nevertheless getting regular airplay with their music and scoring some smaller hits now and then. They've also been touring in Germany & Denmark.
Last week there was already snow in the Ardennes and all week the temperatures remained low enough for the few inches of snow to stay. And they predicted lots of rain at the end of the week...so I counted that the highest tops would get fresh snow.
So off we went yesterday towards the Ardennes, hoping to make a nice snow walk today. Bleh, the "lots of rain" didn't come at night when temperatures are at the lowest, but came today. All day we looked out the window to see drizzle rain fall down and turn the bit of snow into a melting mess. Bleh. On top of that I joined Jan and Kabouter in solidarity on their cold. My nose is now running as well and Kabouter's ongoing cold seems to have worsened. Bleh.
So we didn't go for a walk at all. Instead we stayed inside and I did some self-study and we relaxed a bit in front of tv. Not quite how I had intended my day but it was the best we could make of it.
On our way back the sky was quite spectacular though
