Kabouter conversations - October 2016

  • K: "Sorry, papa"
    K: "Ok, sorry hoor"

Last weeks he seems to take the precaution to say sorry all the time, rather than being sorry for not saying it when he has to. At the silliest moments he gives us an apology eg when I drop something on the floor, he apologies. I'm sure that won't last ;). When he's really been up to something, the apology doesn't come as easy in most cases.

Although one week afterwards he sits with Beertje on the floor in the bathroom while I put quickly something in the closet in the next door bedroom.  Beertje starts to cry all of a sudden and Kabouter enters the bedroom
    K: "Ah ok mama"

  • K: "We hebben gedaan met eten. Joepieee we zijn kampioen!"

(I had no clue we had qualified for some sort of breakfast olympics or so. We'd only make a chance in the competition for slowest meal.)

  • K: "Jij hebt geen piemel eh". He announces this while I'm on the toilet in the bathroom. We've had this conversation frequently before so I confirm once again.
K: "Hoe kan jij dan pipi doen?"

oh boy, ok, we're getting this conversation at a new level :)

  • "Oei, het is al donker! Mag ik nu een kaasje eten?"
Hmm the change of seasons is throwing some confusion in our day planning but he thought to be clever and skip dinner this way.

  • K: "Wat is dat?" pointing at the parking barrier that is open
    K: "Ooooooh. Die is kapot!"
G: "Is die kapot? Oei, en wie gaat die maken?"
K: "De brandweer! ja met een ladder. En dan moet die omlaag en toe en omlaag en toe en omlaag en toe"  (while his arm goes up and down).

That fix somehow doesn't sound very efficient to me but let's not be too critical

  • "Daar stapt een fiets!"

  • "Nee jij bent geel"

  • "Potjandorie!"

  • "Ben jij aan het slapen? " (Jan is snoozing in the sofa after he got home from the US)
"Hoe komt dat?" "Jij mag straks dan in je bedje slapen."

  • K: "Kijk naar de aardbeitjes, daar buiten"
(he abuses this all of a sudden as a nice distraction to the fact he's not finishing his meal)
Pompoenen"

    ....
Later that afternoon he's eating a lolly
K: "Wat zit daarom? Is dat pompoen?"
G: "Huh, wat? Heb jij een pompoenlolly?"
    K:"Neee"

(we are walking in the yacht port in the South of France)

  • "Kijk Blade!!" (There's constantly helicopters flying up and down from the coast of Monaco to the airfield of Nice and vice versa...apparently they all resemble Blade from Planes)

  • "Gaan wij nu ook vlammetjes blussen?"  he asks out loud when our plane takes off.  (he's clearly been watching Planes too much recently)

Dat was niet op tv, eh?" he points to everything in the hotel and confirms whether he's seen it on the default channel on tv in our hotel room where there's publicity and information on the hotel.

  • G:"Ik ben wakker....Is de zon er al?"
I pretend to continue to sleep when he gets up with Jan in our hotel room
    G: "Mamaaa"
    G: "Ssst, ik slaap"
K: "Maar het licht is er al"

I continue to pretend to sleep and he crawls softly in our bed for a while, wobbles and watches me. Then he gets out and runs to Jan
"Papa, mama is nog altijd aan het slapen!"

  • "Ik heb geen sterretje!"
An essential difference between his glass of apple juice and his dad's glass of Heineken

  • "Wat ga ik worden vandaag?"
He wants to know which clothes he gets to wear today

  • In the middle of breakfast
    K: "Ik moet pipi doen"
K: (talking to his dad) "Ok, ik kom seffens terug hoor.  Ik ga dat seffens opeten."

  • K: "Later dan word ik heel heel heel groot en dan ga ik ..."  (I listened in suspense) ".... kleuren, ja in het wit"
G: "Oh en wat ga je dan wit kleuren?"
    K: "Dat weet ik niet?"

  • K: "Deze kan niet racen!"  (while holding one of his Cars race cars in front of my face)

When he got some raisin bread for breakfast he complained and I told him to get the raisins out while I went to wake up and dress Beertje.  I forgot about that and thought I heard him yelling for 5 minutes
"Mamaaaaa, mamaaa, de konijntjes zitten vast. "
"Mamaaaa de konijntjes kunnen er niet uit"

When I got back downstairs with Beertje, I realised he was still complaining about the raisins in his breakfast and wasn't making up a story about rabbits.

  • "Ik was boos toen jij weg was naar uw auto"  (He was 1 minute alone while I was loading the car)

  • K:"Het is lang aan het duren"  (just before he stated he'd not eat the strawberry candy but hold it until we were home during our drive from the grandparents to home. He claimed he'd eat the candy at home in Leuven).   A little later he asks a new candy anyhow.
J: "oh waar is je snoep dan? Waar is je snoep voor Leuven?"
K: "De aardbei heeft die gegeten!?"
  • "Dat mag niet van de dokter. "  a new orginal excuse not to eat something

  • "Jullie mogen zo raar niet spreken" (Jan and I were immitating some Germans in the car)

  • "Ik kan ook een ander!"  (he claims he can talk a different language too)
    "blaokieeooo aah brrie brie oooh"
K: (with a lot of tears, very upset by now): "neeeee ikwil geen boekje lezen, ik wil naar beneden"
G: Waarom wil je naar beneden?
K: "Om in de hoek te staan"
G: "Wat, waarom moet jij in de hoek staan."

(I continue to get his pyjama's on against his will while he continues to whine, cry and disagree with everything)
K: "Ok, ik ga het boekje pakken" (and he hops to the bedroom and  the crying was over)

(Ugggggh toddlers. This is just an example of several likewise episodes)
  • "Samen spelen is samen delen"..a motto he learned in the class but which is getting harder to apply with his little brother now that Beertje is getting mobility and interest in Kabouter's toys.

  • I am in the garden in the sun and close my eyes for a second
    K: "Wat ga jij doen?"
G: "Ik ga even mijn ogen toedoen"
K:"Nee, we gaan seffens slapen in ons bedje."
G: "Seffens? Deze avond als het donker is?"
    K:"Ja op woensdag!"

  • "Maar dat is niet erg hoor"
His latest phrase for everything, especially when he's been up to something.

  • We walk in the woods and see a cabin
    J: "En soep misschien"
    K: "JA!!! Tomatensoep!! ....met kakaballetjes"

(Every 5 minutes he talks about poop. Mentioning poop is so much fun in the world of a toddler).

    ...
K: "Ik ga geen kaka meer zeggen hoor"  (his daily promise)
  • There was a soccer game on tv that we weren't really watching. A little later, it was interrupted for the news (or we switched channels)   and later again it was back on the soccer game.

K:"Papa, die hebben wij al gekeken!"
