We keep on turning: #wedraaiendoor: Ozark Henry - At sea (symphonical)

Each Tuesday and Thursday Anne from Satur9's World and myself, play a musical pingpong game where we choose a new music song based on each other's previous choice by association of a name, style, lyric, style, location or whatever crosses in our mind. We never know what the next song will be chosen and are forced to explore beyond our comfort zone due to each other's choices.

You can find our in the mean time long and fun playlist on Spotify and op Youtube. Subscribing to it is possible!

This post took all summer to simmer and ripen.  Anne had chosen Hollow Talk by the Choir of Young Believers which is really gorgeous. I really let it sink it.
It's so Scandinavian, so in lack of fringes and fuss, so aerial...and then it breaks open and it gives chills. Very impressive and cool song. It's very instrumental too, fragile and pure.  So not an easy thing to follow-up.

I contemplated more Scandinavian songs...more of the Iceland famous mucisians that can bring that cold atmosphere eg by Björk or Sigur Ros.

I wanted the instruments and thought off Enio Morricone - Gabriel's Oboe

Or a whole list of piano singer-song writers:

  • Sarah Mc Laughlan
  • Nora Jones
  • Emeli Sande
  • Tori Amos

Recently we were at the concert of Buurman in the Depot in Leuven and I really enjoyed Pruimelaar.  That's it I thought...the pureness, the slowness, the brass instruments...and how it opens up.   But back home I listened to Hollow Talk again and realised it's quite different anyhow. But The Choir of Young believers sounds vocally like... Ozark Henry. Yep I really think there is similarity in the voice.

And hence I sought a song by Ozark Henry with as much attention for instruments.

Het prachtige nummer van the Choir of Young Believers verdiende inderdaad zo'n mooie zoektocht en prachtige opvolger.
