Made in Belgium: boerenzonen on speed

I recently heard Boerenzonen op Speed ('Farmer's sons on speed') on the radio. The music is faintly familiar but I had never heard of the band.  Apparently this band was formed in Leuven as a sort of joke in a radio program of the local radio. 2 singles had some mild success and they were programmed on some festivals & concerts but after a few years they stopped.

Sangria, a quiz and a search

Yesterday our dive club hosted its yearly clubparty: a good time to hang out together with some food & drinks.

Last year I was in bed with high fever struggling in my fight against flu, but this time I was alive & kicking.

We also played our traditional annual quiz, and we got quite close on wining the cup again this year but missed it by 2 points.

The main quiz question came unexpectedly by a 5 year old guest however who had lost his tiny little black dog toy somewhere while running around in the room.  He kept tapping our arms with his sad little face, asking if we had seen the dog, so soon everyone was wobbling on his chair, looking under the table and moving nearby bags& tables without any result.  The quizmaster kept track of the unsuccessful quest and the parents were visibly annoyed/embarrassed by his stubborn sad persistence that we all found rather charming.

So the evening was successfully closed during the clean-up when despite all chair moving earlier,  one chair revealed finally its tiny black treasure sitting quietly.  The happy reunion will be arranged shortly.

Made in Belgium: Stijn

Stijn is an electro musician which I mainly know for his hit Sexjunkie which I like a lot.  To me he is mainly a one-hit wonder, but here's some other work of him as well.

A late new year's letter

The weekends in January are so quickly filled and therefore February makes a good back-up month for late new year's wishes and late New Year's letters to be read. The Christmas tree to which the letter refered, has disappeared in the mean time but that didn't make the afternoon any less fun & cosy to spend with family, loads of food and some presents.

Back (from sleep deprivation & northern Italy)

Last week was insanely busy with regional budget deadlines & checks coming together with regional meeting preperations and regional meeting : overwork, also some in weekend and rest of the time too drop dead tired to do anything...definately too tired to blog or read blogs.

Anyway, I survived the week, caught up some sleep and all in all it was good fun.  Unfortunately we also had to celebrate the goodbye of 2 team members but we enjoyed the time together.
The advantage of working for a global firm is that there are great but nevertheless relevant locations to hold your regional meetings :).  So we stuck around there just a tiny bit longer than needed to enjoy.

Made in Belgium: Metal Molly

Metal Molly was a Belgian rockband quite succesfull in the mid-nineties,  being part of Belgian biggest rock festival Werchter and the also could play as warm-up at concerts of Bush, David Bowie and Therapy?  Since 2000 there's not been much activity around this group.

Snow is back

After only one week of pouring rain ,  snow is back....and stays in the Ardennes for another week for sure. Quite handy for local tourism as it is spring break in Belgium.  And it's gorgeous here.

Made in Belgium: Gaetan Streel

To be honest, Gaetan Streel is one of the Wallonian groups I hardly know myself.  And as always when browsing through youtube and checking them out, I wonder why.

  • As soon as I posted my New Year's List, I all of a sudden had several thoughts that I had forgot to post but that had crossed my mind the days before and obviously the days after . "oh, I should have added that to my list, that would have been quite witty".   So here I am , trying to remember but obviously I all forgot them again.  Oh well, I am making a new draft post, and let it simmer for a while, allowing myself to add a new bullet now and then. So this post starts early January....who knows when I'll decide it is finished and ready for posting?
  • For the first time in years, I sent my Christmas cards before the new year!  That is an enormous achievement!! Usually I'm glad if I get them out of the door mid-January.
  • Rain after snow....1 day of rain and you are so sick of it.
  • In November some road construction workers made a hole in the parking space nearby and a piece of grass across the road  and then left it open with piles of dirt to the sides.   Today, 10 weeks later, they've spent half a day working on it again....leaving it open with piles of dirt to the sides. Looking forward to their return in April. Geeeez. It would be nice to get that parking space back.
  • I think you guys are all blogging less because I seem to be able to keep up with my feedreader more easily than last year and seriously I don't have that much more time.
  • the cord to control our front (folding) curtain snapped last week. Then I bought a new one in a nearby curtain store, only to realise that the new cord was not compatible and had forced & broken the mechanism. Now we need to renew the entire system. Aaaaaargh, sucks big time.
Until that's fixed, we'll have to live like the Dutch.
