Visiting the renewed and reopened KMSKA with friends

Never in my life I had visited the KMSKA before. But I do love art museums and my children recently picked up a love for museum visits as well and our good friend Yab has a professional link to the KMSKA . As such she's been there often and has some inside information and offered us to give us a guided tour. That's an offer we couldn't refuse.

So after our zoo visit and noodle lunch, we walked on the hottest day of the year so far to the airco joys of the KMSKA. 

Via the monumental entrance hall we first entered the new museum that interestingly has been inserted as new cubes into the old former courtyards. 

We first got distracted by the things that caught the media : the shiny white floor and the instagramable hall where we also had our picture taken to join the hype. 

The boys searched the 10 objects by Christophe Coppens and their linked artwork in the hall while I got myself seduced by the Summer of Emile Claus..the painter from my hometown.  This is painted in the fields where I biked so much during my childhood.  
Soon we also discovered plenty of Ensor's that Beertje had asked for since our visit at the Ensor House, some of them we had just seen in Oostende in replica's.  

The 10 by Christophe Coppens where a wide variety of objects of all sorts, some quite funny such as noisy bottoms or what seemed like an atomic kitten. 

After the newest masters, we went into the "old" part of the museum to see the old masters.  They are not arranged chronologically. I assumed that would bother me but it wasn't so confusing after all. 

The big Antwerp master that has a monumental hall dedicated to himself and his students.

The mother with her children at the beach touched me...painted by one of the rare female painters and such an accurate depiction of motherhood. 

The only Van Gogh I spotted

Dali...always so inspirational and intriguing. 

 

After about 3 hours of marvelling at so much amazing art, we were ready to face the heat outside again and go and look for some refreshing drinks and some seats to give our feet a rest.
