Visiting Veurne

On our way to and from De Panne this summer, we each time had to kill some time just around noon so we stopped twice in Veurne to have lunch there.

I was really charmed by the old craftguild houses, warehouses and the charming big market square where we took place in one of the many restaurants to have an outdoor lunch.

We also went for a stroll in the city center around the market .

Behind the town hall we arrived in a nice city park, where we could see the remains of an old fortress, lots of artwork etc. Very charming!

The main church was something quite odd.  The western gate has never been completed and even never been attached to the rest of the church (the choir and ship).  So there is a structure in the park that is now separate portal building that turned into a water reservoir.
The actual church has a very short ship and most of the chairs are actually in the choir which I've never seen in a gothic church before. So it's a very high but short church. Quite remarkable, although it's not very clear on my pictures.
