Happy birthday

Happy birthday to Europe! It's been 50 years that the treaty of Rome got signed. Hip hip hurray!

Currently the European union seems to have become an enormous monster that cannot move in any direction anymore efficiently. And it has created a horrendous urban development lacking all personality in Brussels. But it has brought us many good things in the last 50 years as well. Apart from good competition in a lot of markets such as airlines, more export, the Euro currency, ....
However the most important thing it has brought us is PEACE, especially between two sworn ennemies that have started 3 wars against each other in less than 100 years: France and Germany...currently the best political friends you can have. Hip hip hurray for that! :)

Hi Jen,

Yes there were official festivities in Brussels today with European kings, presidents, ministers etc present. There was among other a concert of the 9th symphony of Beethoven (that is the European national anthem).

Tonight is a big concert under the atomium in Brussels with European stars: UB40, Zucchero, The Scorpions, Kim Wilde, ... and also some of the best Belgian musicians: Axelle Red, Ozark Henry, Helmut Lotti, Kate Ryan, ... I don't bother to go but it is live on tv.

The biggest festivities are however in Berlin tonight were all the European politicians go also to sign the treaty of Berlin tomorrow.

All in all, it's not like the whole continent is partying though. But it's all over in the news at least with lots of flashbacks on the history of the EU in the last 50 years.
