Although we planned to just have a resting vacation, camping next to the pool in the sun like the previous year, we had booked a rental car anyhow. This year our hotel was a few kms up in the mountains away from the coast and being dependent on a taxi (with baby seat) in case we want to leave the hotel premises didn't look very practical.

But once you have a car, you also get out more easily and so we headed twice just before dinner to the nearest beach town in Gran Canaria. We strolled along the boulevard, the expensive shops near the hotel complexes, the lighthouse,  the outdated tourist junk shacks and some sad bars and the start of the dune nature reserve.
