Burg Rueland
Previous week we also drove to Burg-Rueland...a bit a forgotten corner of Belgium in the middle of nowhere near the German/ Luxembourgish border countryside.
In Burg-Rueland the ruins of a medieval fortress towers above the little sleepy town in the valley. We had trouble finding a parking spot in the tiny narrow streets that were even missing a sidewalk. Most houses had private driveways but we had to park all the way in the valley and climb up. The boys were motivated to climb though.
The fortress itself is a square ruin that you can visit for free...you can walk along the walls, read some explanations about the old bastions etc. There is a tiny visitor center and sanitory block that are apparently closed in the winter time. There are some staircases that lead to part of the basement hallways.
It was a beautiful sunny winter day and we had a good view to the frozen valley that was still in the shade.

We continued to drive a bit through the area at that 3-country point searching for a little village with a restaurant. We enjoyed some really beautiful views but were very happy to sit down in a restaurant in Luxemburg to finally get a late lunch.
