Planckendael in winter

When all plans for the past weekend got cancelled, I thought it was a good idea to visit Planckendael again. That zoo is only at 20-30 min from our house and we have a subscription that we don't nearly use often enough.

It was a grey rainy weekend. There was a risk that we'd stay inside all the time but I wanted to get some fresh air. So why not go for a walk in the zoo, even just a short one?

Thanks to the rain there were big puddles and Beertje managed to roll out of his stroller when we were about 5 minutes inside. He rolled...stomac flat in a big puddle of muddy water, giving him a muddy face, a muddy jacket (fortunately most of it ran off the waterproof coating), muddy wet pants and shoes. Fantastic.  He was mostly heartbroken that his left-over cookie was in the mud as well and that we didn't allow him to eat it anymore.  Kabouter on the other hand had proactively put on his boots so he could test all the puddles without hesitation.

There wasn't many people in the zoo. Here and there were some construction works ongoing. But the gates between the different 'continents' were open so we managed to make some shortcuts to walk the shortest route to our animals of choice.   At the end of our walk - and close to the early winter closing time - the children got to ride the carousel.  Those had really smart little belts on each "animal seat" so that even Beertje could ride autonomously on a high giraffe. Smart.
