Guiding my mom through Leuven

Our attempt to have a cosy afternoon walking through Leuven got rained out last Summer. Gosh we were so soaked as if we had been in the shower with clothes on.

But last week my mom proposed to come to Leuven again as I didn't have much chores to do at her home, so no need to drive all the way to my hometown that weekend.  Great suggestion as so she could see the boys that had busy schedules with too many birthday parties to attend in the weekend.

We first played a bit at home, said goodbye to Kabouter who had to go to his appointment with friends and then we went out for a lunch in Beertje's current favourite restaurant: "Croque 'N Roll".  Perfect for a tasty but quick and not overpriced lunch.

With our stomacs full of special croques , I took my mom zigzagging through the city to show her some corners that she surely had never seen before, because Leuven is so much more than the Big Market and the Old Market squares and the big shopping avenue to the station.

There's tiny old worker's streets that are now very cosy and pittoresque, there are so many colleges with (hidden) inner court yards or gardens everywhere, and we kept on running into more churches and convents. Well we are the second oldest university with ties to the Vatican for some reason after all.

We passed the Velodrome again where we huddled in a store entrance last summer hiding for the biggest downpour in vain. This time Beertje could run an imaginary race which he won! Hurray for our champion.

With a last stop to greet saint Father Damian , about whome my mom has taught her class in the past, but who rests not far from our home.

After that we returned home with tired legs but a lot of satisfaction from a nice afternoon together.

Voor daar 6 jaar op kot gezeten te hebben moet ik eerlijk bekennen dat die plekjes me absoluut niet bekend voorkomen! Uiteindelijk leer je een stad pas echt kennen als je er woont heb ik de indruk...

@josie: anders kennen wellicht. Ik ken dan geen universiteitscampus (behalve sociale wetenschappen waar ik altijd doorheen shortcut op weg naar centrum).
