Walking the children to school

"I'm going to put on my rubber boots mama, so I can jump puddles at school."
"That's a good idea boy"

I walk behind this little boy, who hops on the sidewalk,
jumps on and off small stairs at people's doors
full of energy to take on this new day,
his fluo jacket's side flaps whopping in the wind
and his shark backpack grinning at me behind.

He catches up with his older brother and they continue side by side
deep in conversation about some imaginary ninja world
where they are action heroes. 
"Sword ready, attack.  Yes bang, we won"
"Oh watch out, they are robbers across the street"
"Got them"

I smile and feel so blessed by their innocence
It's a good start of the day when you can walk some hopping ninja's to school.
