Guadeloupe zoo

 

The Guadeloupe Zoo was not too far from us.   It is on the west-side of Basse-Terre too, on the only road that crosses this island in the middle, on the steep hill descending on the west-side.  The parking lot is on the descend in the midst of some hairpin bends. 

It is located in the middle of the tropical forest and houses mostly tropical animals. The trails are often wooden trails amidst the trees.  I recognized the trails right away...as there had been an episode of Death in Paradise located in this Zoo. Fortunately, no zookeeper was killed when we were there. 

Did you know that a black panter is as dotted as his non black version...  It's not a different type of jaguar, he just has a black skin through more melanone.  He has just as many dots as his non black variant. 

We believe we've seen this little fellow in the wild a couple of times, crossing the street and rushing into the bushes quickly

There is also a rope circuit that goes high in the trees.  The boys went on their half hour hike up there without me and given my injured knee and fear of heights that was the best decision.  In the meantime I had observed little toddlers in the toddler version of this rope circuit.
