Saint-Valéry-Sur-Somme
We left early for our trip to the Somme baie before the end of the Year so we didn't have to stress on the road for unexpected events or so. As a result we approached our destination a bit after lunch time but our gite wouldn't be available before 5PM.
We decided to drive to Saint-Valéry-Sur-Somme, a historical town inland at the south end of the bay. We had visited it a couple of times during our 2020 summer vacation and really loved it so it was fun to return (without mouth masks). And for me, it was nice to get out of the car and try to let go of my accumulated driving stress/fears.
It was a grey foggy day as most of the end of 2024 was, so we couldn't see the other side of the bay but we enjoyed strolling around along the waterside and then climb up towards the ramparts and the medieval fortifications.

With a warm drink and a pancake, we were ready to hit the road again for the last few dozen kms towards the gite inland and meet our friends there.
The next day Jan and his friend who volunteered to cook on the weekend took the boys for a huge shopping trip to fullfill all catering requests at the end of the year. While they were gone, the rest of us wanted fresh air and discover the area a bit so I ended up taking them to Saint-Valéry-Sur-Somme again and I tourguided them in exactly the same walk as the day before as they had not seen the somme bay yet, neither this cute little town. The air was grey but more clear so this time we managed to spot Le Crotoy on the north side of the bay and we spotted also 3 swimming seals from far. Yeaaay. Mission succeeded.
