Repairing our leaky shower

It was an early morning at the end of January when the boys , as often got up before me and went downstairs while I had hit a snooze...and then came to our room.  "Mom, Dad, the floor has a puddle of water in the living room and there's water dripping from the ceiling".

I can tell you, you no longer snooze but jump out of the bed downstairs to see the damage. Sure enough, water was dripping from our ceiling, where our main bathroom was located above.  Of fuck.

We did discover that we had not closed our hand shower very well and it had been gently spraying our "waterproof" painted 17 year old wall for probably over 24hours.  We closed the shower and fortunately the water leak stopped quite soon in the living room and started to dry up.

We quickly abandoned our main shower and retreated to the small guest shower one floor above, and then waited for some professionals to advise us.

It took some months to get handy men on site, order new materials and discuss a solution.  Basically they didn't want to guarantee our custom-made our trapezium-sized shower that is a mirror of our 2p-bath tub further.  A more standard rectangular shower and some wall-plates replacing our outdoor old painted walls had to guarentee leaks for the future.  With regret, we took the rational choice for standardization quality over bespoke style.
While they were at it, we also agreed to replace our old arch we almost never use to full functionality for a more standard but new optimized shower.  Boring but functional.

Ad the end of April finally the workers arrived and started working. First the wrong size of showertub got built in, got deconstructed again and then the good ones got installed.  The wooden floors around it got renewed and that was about time and we also got it all repainted.

Before: The trapezium shower with arched shower, mirroring the trapezium bath tub.

The works

The result:
After camping with the 4 of us some weeks in the little guest bathroom (after showering there for 4 months already) the relief to get our bathroom functional back was big.
While I thought our trapezium shower was so special but a simple standard rectangular shower proofs also to be very nice. And it works and it doesn't leak.  Wonderful!

It looked so wonderful without all our cluttering stuff in it.  So stylish! However, after a few pictures we quickly moved back our changing table, the towels and stuff.  But I still love it. It's nice to have a functional bathroom.

wall /cealing cracks have been repaired and painted
