(Re)introduction of toga's at university of Ghent

Hmm I thought this was a purely North-American tradition which we see in sooo many movies/tv series etc... I had heard that the university of Ghent would introduce it and I thought they tried to immitate this popular image. But now I read everywhere that toga's would have been first a European tradition which has crossed the ocean. Interesting, I didn't know that.

So the first graduation in Belgium in toga's since decades sure makes the national news.

I think it's cool though. It sure gives graduation a bit more solemn character than it was in my days. I know that my friends would have liked a toga. I am glad that I got that opportunity in Canada at high school.
