School party around the world

Kabouter and Beertje attend a little school in the neighbourhood with mainly children that live nearby.  The school is mainly white but still boasts a remarkable high number of nationalities. In Kabouter's class, there are classmates where at least one parent speaks Russian, German, English, Portugese, Spanish, Italian, French or Nepalese. Beertje's best friend (from a higher class) has Bulgarian parents and he has classmates with Polish and American roots for sure.

This inspired the school to organise a world school party where a lot of the parents cooked traditional meals from Iraq, Nepal, Thailand, Marocco, Brasil, Poland, ... and where there were a lot of workshops from around the world.  With the involvement of all these helping parents, they pulled off a big variaty of activities which is impressive since a small school only has a small group of teachers to get it all organised.

First we enjoyed some of the food which was excellent. Too many great choices and only such a small stomac :(. Life is unfair.

The workshops and meals were all spread out in the different classes since it was cold and there were threatening hail storms in the air. Not quite the atmosphere of the previous chill hot school parties where we just chilled in the shadow of a tree with the other parents all day.   Because it was all so spread out, I had the feeling I've missed all the contacts with the other parents and we just crossed all the timing going from one class to another asking each other "did you see x (name of child)" since we were all often searching our children who just navigated from here to there.

We watched an initiation of capoeira.

The children played outside in the garden , the sand box and with traditional games and inside in the building corners while we watched the hair braiding in the other corner.

At 4 PM after there was the traditional little dance by the entire school in the sun shine right after a big rain shower half an hour before. The dance was in the recent school theme of conserving/ protecting water.

When most people left, we finally found ourselves together with some of Kabouter's class parents, gathered around the sand box where the children had installed themselves. So we caught up with some chats until a the cleaning up was almost done, we were frozen and a new shower was threatening us.

@Elss en Mie kids: ja het is altijd heel chill en kindvriendelijk. Gewoon spelen en bijkletsen zonder stress van shows die moeten opgevoerd worden of zo.
