Wet wet wet wet

We walk hand in hand.
He keeps remarkably close to me, shielded in the sweater's hood

"Wet wet wet wet, my shorts are wet, these are my new shorts" he mumbles upset
"Wet wet wet wet, my shorts are wet." he repeats.
"yes but they'll dry and you got your brother's sweater to stay nice and warm".

A few moments ago he was a moment out of our sight at the wading pool playground
and all of a sudden I see Jan turn around and send me a grin.
What follows is a dripping little boy appearing next to him
seemingly in disbelief of what just happened
with half his hair sleek straight and dripping with water
eyes wide open and a trembling lip

It's a bit a comical sight but Jan signs me not to take a picture in his vulnerability.
We strip the soaked T-shirt off and use his brother's sweater
(thank goodness to have a brother who is always cold).

"Wet wet wet wet, my shorts are wet"
"It's ok we'll walk to the car and get you changed at home"
"But my shorts are wet, how do I get in the car? These are my new shorts"
I'm relieved he gives the hand-me down shorts such a high status.

We walk hand in hand
He keeps remarkably close to me, shielded in the sweater's hood
impressed by what just happened

Gelukkig was het maar de waterspeeltuin. Het had ook een vies beekje kunnen zijn :)
