We keep on turning #wedraaiendoor: Louis Armstrong - What a wonderful world
Each Tuesday and Thursday Anne from Satur9's World play a musical pingpong game where we choose a new music song based on each other's previous choice by association of a name, style, lyric, style, location or whatever crosses in our mind. We never know what the next song will be chosen and are forced to explore beyond our comfort zone due to each other's choices.
Previous week Anne threw Migraine to me which literally would give me a headache so I responded by another song that would give me a headache. So she promised me to choose something more chill as next choice. She kept her promise with Badly Drawn Boy: River Sea Ocean. It was a nice new discovery for me. I had seen part of the movie but the song was unknown to me. It's been on repeat a couple of times.
What first struck me quite quickly is the will to just leave together to somewhere in the world undefined, it doesn't matter where, as long as you are together. Immediately I had to think of Gers Pardoel who has 2 songs with a similar intent:
- Gers Pardoel: Bagagedrager
- Gers Pardoel: Ik neem je mee
So I was about to choose Gers Pardoel but hesitating between both songs . The fact that we finally got another dutchspeaking song here in our series would be a nice bonus.
I listened to River, Sea Ocean and Gers Pardoel and back to find the best song and then the jazzy piano in River, Sea, Ocean struck me. And the nice chill vibe was a bit disturbed by Gers's rap and upbeat ...
So I started searching for jazz in popular songs.
- Scott Joplin: The Entertainer
- Ray Charles : Hit the road jack
- Louis Armstrong: What a wonderful world
Ooooh that last one. My dad would sing along. It shows so much faith in the good of the world, it is so chill and what a brilliant brilliant performer. Yep, let's applaude for Louis Armstrong and enjoy.
By the way this youtube video loops this lovely song in a 1 hour loop...perfect to just chill at home. I tested it and it doesn't bore. But I'll post a live performance below to enjoy the great mimic of mr Armstrong.

Dat is zo'n nummer waar ik echt altijd bij ga glimlachen. Altijd.
Fijne blogpost. En altijd mooi vind ik, zo'n muzikale herinnering aan je vader.
