More furniture, more space, less clutter

Since our new sofa in Leuven that takes up much more space than the previous ones, the little table seems oversized in the cramped space left over. It was clear from the moment we ordered the sofa that we'd need a new smaller table as well, getting things more in proportion again.  So after looking around a little, we didn't bother an extensive search for something exclusive but just took 2 down to earth IKEA tables. We can now play with the space and turn them and combine them as we wish.  If only we could find a more elegant solution to our eternal electrical plugs that form a loading center on the table for so many electrical devices.

The old table moved to the east of Belgium, where we have been using for 10 years a tiny square black table despite the space for more.  It's funny how all our furniture seems to have a life cycle that moves them from the west of Belgium (sometimes from our parent's homes) to the east and have an end of life moment in the Ardennes :p.   So the salon table has arrived here too.

While we were shopping for IKEA, I had also realised in the recent weeks how the space between the tv and sofa had become a cluttered line of little table tops, linnen boxes on which everything had been piled up over time. Funny how that happens and you don't even see it.  It's just the way it is, ....until you see it. Then you realise how you've been taking pictures of the children , how you've been hosting people etc with an incredible mess in the background.  And then you realise also there is quite some space.  So ...we bought a cupboard that would be an extention of the old tv furniture.

The clutter against the wall and the tiny black old table while all the new stuff is moving in

The result after is remarkable. Since we moved in bigger tables, poofs and a cupboard , you'd expect the space to feel a lot smaller. But to the contrary!  While the clutter has disappeard and the table and cupboard give a visual line that strenghtens the width of the room.... all feels wider!  We are now using a part of the width that we have simply not used for over 10 years.  And somehow I have the (wrong) feeling we have more seating options now arrange along the table since all seats now have access to the table.  wooohoo, very cool! I'm happy.
