Back in time on a farm
After an ad hoc BBQ invitation with friends that worked out in our agenda (yeaaay, calanders can be even more of a challenge in summer but this time we could just join in ), we learned about our friend's new hobby to become a beekeeper. Another joint friend has inherited an old family farm where time stood still. One of the family predecessors was a well known beekeeper and both friends now will try to revive the bee colonies on the site.
We were quite curious so took the opportunity to go and have a look the next when both would be on the old farm. It was amazing to see this old farm that seemed so familiar and at the same time such a flash-back in time to old heritage days. I saw many similarities to the homestead of my grandparents which I have not seen anymore in 40 years: a "grand" main house with some formal rooms full of antiques (think of big furniture, clocks, vases, black & white formal family portraits), a big kitchen that is the centre of the house and then a courtyard with many barns, shacks, structures for pigeons, .... and of course the outhouse with the green door and heart in the door.
Wow, what a project this friend of ours has inherited. Not sure how feasible the dream to transform all of this into a B&B would be, but I sure would enjoy breakfast on the inner court.

hay barn roofs
We enjoyed the view of antiques everywhere and stroll in the orchard
And then we went to see the first bee population that should revive their family heritage of bee keepers.
