Back to school and back to the office
September 1st 2021
Back to school
Thinking which clothes they'd wear again (*)
Filling the backpacks again (*)
Making sandwiches at the breakfast table again (*)
Filling water bottles again (*)
Checking the clock in the morning and hushing the children to progress again (*)
Searching last minute the shoes again to leave (*)
Posing for the traditional pictures again
Checking the weather app to decide whether we need a rain jacket again
A big hug again
A new teacher
A new year
A new class
The same friends again
Deciding what to wear again and putting my clothes ready on the eve instead of just grabbing my home wear comfy jogging.
Remembering to pack up a lunch during breakfast again
Packing up my laptop from my desk into my backpack again
Pulling the front door behind me again and remember where I had parked my car again
Hitting the road again
Driving up the office parking lot again
A new office space
A new office space
Meeting a partially new team
Forgetting my office badge again
Exploring the brand new rooms
Exploring the brand new rooms
Testing the new chairs
Saying hi to familiar faces again
Waiting at the coffee machine again
Missing the home's coffee maker
Missing the home's coffee maker
Eating lunch with the others in the kitchen again
and being jealous of the other's leftovers again.
Participating in random trivial lunchtime conversations again
Seeing customers in our renewed and reopened showroom again.
Working without music again
Missing my home's desk that seems more ergonomic
Checking the planning again to see who is home and who is in the office when
getting confused about my own hybrid planning again.
Checking if we'll meet digitally or in person is the new normal
Just dropping by at someone's desk to quickly align or inform again
Hearing the customer's phone calls again
Not being able to stop at time again
Being home quite late again
Worrying whether I'll find a parking spot nearby again
just in time to slip at the table with the boys again
not having been able to pick them up from school again
changing my shoes for my soft moccassins again
Not getting a lot of stories out of them right away again.
Feeling quite tired in the evening again.
September 1st was a return to an old/new routine in so many ways with some mixed feelings.
(*) not really new as most of the summer we did the same thing when the children attended summer day camps or went to the playground activities of the city in the neighbourhood.
