Visiting Wildpark Schmidt near Nideggen, D

After our successful visit to the Eifelpark during our vacation week, we felt like more and once again we drove into the Eifel to visit another wild park. This time we drove in the direction of Nideggen, to Wildpark Schmidt.   This park is small scale but quite charming.

The entrance is a big chalet that serves as restaurant and facilities...lots of good soups or sausages for sale as lunch.   Outside the chalet on top of the hill is a petting zoo and a small playgarden.

From there a walking trail descends the winding valley where you cross different zones with wildlife.  You cross woods where you can spot different types of deer and goats. Some keep themselves in the distance on the opposite slopes from the valleys far out of reach, others are brave and come to seek some of the food you can distribute and some remain invisible.

There are some ponds with an army of ducks that wants to approach you and clear beaver activity.

We sat down at the petting zone with some cake and coffee while the children amused themselves with the goats and the small playground.  It was really nice out there in the sun.
Since the facilities (being the cafetaria) are open here, we saw more families than in the Eifelpark which was huge but deserted...yet it was still rather quiet but their facilities show they can handle more people in the Summer.
