Partial solar eclipse

I had somehow missed entirely that we'd have a partial solar eclipse last Saturday in Belgium.  I expected that that would be more in media beforehand but I missed it entirely.  (maybe I try to skip media successfully to avoid Trump/ Musk disasters).

Anyway...we find out there's an eclipse a few hours before an eclipse and I've never seen an eclipse. I've managed to be in North-America during a full eclipse in Europe and vice versa.  And now in such a short time we surely didn't have any eclipse glasses at hand.  When Kabouter heard there would be an eclipse he seemed genuinely disappointed.

so I googled a bit and quickly got instructions to build our viewing box. And I got the boys into some science craft work.

It was actually easy peasy to make and yes we could spot the sun.

And so to the surprise of our neighbours who had wondering what we were up to and unaware of the eclipse too and who viewed with us, we spotted the little dent in the sun. Pretty cool. But we already ordered our eclipse glasses for the much bigger eclipse in the summer of 2026. Woohoo.
