Cows giving birth

When in the east of Belgium I always keep a close eye on the cows in the field. The neighbour farmer tends to isolate highly pregnant cows in the field next to us, so if I see some big ladies alone...I keep an eye on them.

Last year we witnessed a birth in full and often we've just missed one but noticed a little calf in the field.

Also this summer we were partially lucky:

These 2 ladies were very nice but they were not delivering during the days I was thee.

I admit I stare at their butt

In july we witnessed a birth starting but I fear it didn't end well.  We've not been able to observe until the end, because the farmer arrived and took the birthing mother with him inside.  Since the calves legs were sticking out , I fear he'd need to do a lot of pulling with the risk of a unhappy end so maybe for the better that that did not took place in front of our eyes.

This lady had a happy end. We missed the moment but Beertje all of a sudden came to yell to me that the calf was in the field.   I could still witness the early licking of the baby and the attempts to get up. So cute to see the just-borns.
