Halloween in Heverlee
Beertje really wanted to do real trick or treating this year. In the past our neighbourhood has done together with the local scouts some scary tours but not actual ringing at the doors for candy.
For the 2nd year now apparently, the neighbourhood tries to organize a trick or treat evening and fortunately they did it on nov 2 in the evening at the end of the vacation. This way, people that left for a week vacation could still participate.
It was well done: houses that participated had been listed before so there were some maps but they all put a lit pumpkin or candle outside. So children could choose the right houses and leave those alone that don't feel like celebrating Halloween. Those that had voluntary chosen to participated, also sometimes had done quite some effort in their own decorations.
The time slot was also clearly defined and not too long.
The turnout was bigger than expected, but that made if fun as there was clear passage on the streets filled with little witches, skeletons and monsters. And to my surprise, the "come along dressed up scary" also applied to the adults tagging along. I was clearly underdressed.

crossing some class mates who had even dressed up the dog
haha the sign seemed scarier than the unmotivated teenager that opened the dose to grabble some candy
This was fun! If we weren't a tiny bit out of the way, I might consider signing our own house up for participating as well next year (if we can convince some neighbours to do the same...so that "our street" becomes worthwile to visit too .
Funny how this North-American holiday is really settling in Europe now. First as some student party theme, then just as some decoration theme but little by little it grows.
