Making international friends

At our first breakfast, Kabouter comes back from the buffet. "I think I just saw Max". "you sure?"   "I don't know".

Turns out Max is a friend he played with at the hotel a year ago but he had to leave after a few days back to the UK.  they had exchanged telephone numbers but the whatsapp conversations had been very sporadic and died out in Spring.  (turns out it was his mom's number, not Max's itself).  But clearly Max's family also has a routine to return to Gran Canaria in the autumn vacation. After we had to nudge Kabouter multiple times to take his courage and go and approach Max ...who was indeed Max, they were off to play and hang out again for a couple of days until Max had to leave again.

But it's quite handy when both of our boys don't mind talking to strangers and manage talking English well (and there were a lot of English tourists around).  That works a little easier than making Spanish friends as a few years ago.

A few days later Beertje seemed to hang out consistently with a boy. Before we knew it, we had a regular visitor in our room and at our terrace, playing ipad games and board games together.  I guess it is the advantage of staying in a family friendly hotel, so there is always children of the same age around.   And then for once it is a vacation where both of our boys are not entirely depending on each other for social contacts.
