With my mom at the Westerbegraafplaats
We had talked about this for over a year but there was never a good moment. Early December wasn't a good moment either: I was recovering from my tooth surgery and it was pouring rain. But I had some time in my agenda and so did my mom and rather impulsive we decided to just hit the road. Quite remarkable as we are quite non-impulsive people.
I had not been at the Westerbegraafplaats in probably over two decades, although I had come yearly as a little child. In this huge cemetery in Ghent rest the baby brother and baby sister that I've never met.
So for the first time in 2 decades, my mom and I walked there together again, through the big lanes with remarkable grave monuments, the big trees, along the military section towards the child cemetery to commemorate together the 2 children my mother has lost during childbirth, in the rain.
It was a special moment, and we were both so grateful that we've taken the opportunity when we had it to do this.
