Selling paper flowers again at the beach
A year ago our boys got introduced to the Belgian cultural heritage of making and selling paper flowers at the beach thanks to other children. We really got into it.
So when we made plans to return to De Panne, the "vase" with left-over paper flowers from previous summer that had decorated our living room all year round was put ready to travel with us, also as the full box of the right shells we still had that server as money to pay. And we had proactively bought more craft kits to make them, until we found the left-over material of the year before as well. So we were well prepared this year!
On our first day at the beach we already had our first customers while setting up on Saturday afternoon. The left-over flowers from previous year went quickly but also cheaply. Then we bought some very beautiful new ones from other children that we studied to try to copy in our appartment. We didn't reach their level though.
Over the week the focus on the flowers reduced slowly. They were usually around, but there were fewer other shops around and only from children we had already bought from. We have made a few days new flowers but some of the other kids didn't like that and didn't want to buy any of our offer.
And our boys....they spent most of the time in the dunes or playing soccer on the beach further or swimming or ... When then shop is unmanned, you don't get as much customers.
But it was still fun and we returned to Leuven again with a full vase of flowers, sitting back at its spot in our living room. Maybe they get sold next year, who knows.
