The Lijssenthoek War Cemetary in Poperinge and the Last Post in Yper

On our way from Poperinge to Ypres, we took some time for remembrance again.  We stopped at the Lijssenthoek War Cemetary which I had never visited before.  It has the traditional commonwealth war lay-out but I was surprised to see some rows of graves really pushed side by side without any space between them. And there were a few German graves among the other, that was also a first for me. It's actually good to see that in the graves there was here no more segregation between them.

We stayed overnight in Ypres since we had to go to a family gathering the next day in the west of the country.  It was the children's explicite request to return to the Last Post in Ypres, which we had attended the previous year. I was glad to fullfill their request and participate again in this daily solemn tribute for all fallen soldiers at the Menin Gate that holds the names of all the missing soldiers. 

We followed from downtown an Irish marching band that was participating in today's tribute. After the buglers played the Last Post, they played some moving accordion music to conclude. Never seen a marching band with a whole accordion section in it, but it was very solemn and touching.
