Eating Mexican in Maastricht

Our Texan friends in Maastricht had told us last year that they had found a excellent Mexican restaurant in Eindhoven and we were going to find a date to go out for dinner there together but somehow we never made it around to it.  And in the mean time they have a new favourite Mexican place in Maastricht itself and this time we had set a date.

When it approached we realised that Jan had an appointment in the east of Belgium and I was still feeling exhausted for some reason.  It felt stupid to drive up with 2 cars, I also didn't trust myself for driving back at night and I also didn't feel being a designated driver when spending time with our friends.

The solution was to pick up the children after their day camp and walk to the train station and catch some trains there.  This way I could chill a bit, which didn't take into account the delay we had in the first train which made it a true race but we made it.

With a short walk through Maastricht we joined up with our friends and Jan already at the destination.  Ah what a great city is Maastricht, especially on a sunny summer evening.

While the menu at Jitomato didn't look any out of the ordinary when you eat out Mexican: taco's and enchillada's etc.  But the herbing, the marinade of the meat was surely more qualitative, not one out of the dozen. The guys also were in love with the chocolate mole, which I obviously didn't taste. But I had a go for a glass of Michelada which is an odd drink with beer, tomato juice, spicy herbs and salt. Like a beary spicy bloody mary.. this was an alcoholfree version of it. Interesting but not to drink 2 glasses of it on the same night.

We walked home through the city but not without an ice cream stop because the boys remembered their ice-cream from last time.

The rest of the city was packed and getting ready for an André Rieu concert.

We spent the night chilling at our friend's house, hang out, watch football and crash in their spare bedroom. No nightly drives home for us this time.
