The first weeks of day camp for the boys
The start of the school vacation doesn't change our rhythm much to be honest...alarm clocks go at the same time, breakfast still includes filling lunch boxes and backpacks to get out of the door more or less at the same time.
For the first weeks Jan and I don't have vacation yet (on the contrary we cover for colleagues and help it's sooo busy) so I traditionally look for day-camps around Leuven for the boys as we've done for the last 10 years.
The first week was the hardest just like last summer as both boys were at different locations and both on the other side of Leuven. Those camps are stressfull as the care ends much earlier than in school (and we have no babysits picking them up) so we must rush (too) early from the office to go and pick them up.
Kabouter did a frisbee camp with some of his school friends while Beertje was doing some building/construction camp with no friends around (he was ok about that, it's not the first time either). They suffered from the incredible heat wave but had fun in the end.
This time we jogged (with Jan ) or biked (with me....whoaaa I am back on my bike after 2 years) to the other side of the abbey to the farm where we harvest and get our dairy. And they returned home alone if needed, which is also a new milestone.
Here they played on the farm a full week, harvested a tiny bit and did their own cooking. Ha no lunch boxes in the morning, that is kinda chill! They treated us at the end of the week with a summer bar for the parents with self-made food treats, self-invented mocktails, crafted menu cards and drink coupons and they working in shifts in the bar, waiters, dishwashing etc. Very cute to see! They had fun and I am so relieved I managed to fix my screw up.
Now they are in the playground camp from the city of Leuven which is literally around the corner from our house. Easy-peasy and cheap also . I subscribe this the week before and after scouting camp as we often don't use the full week but that doesn't really matter.
