With the friends around Sourbrodt

One o Beertje's classmates likes to spend a few days around Christmas in the east of Belgium too now and then. It's not the first time they book a couple of nights away in our area and now they came again.
Then we meet up to go for a joined walk, just like we did at the end of 2023 (and the year before we had to cancel because we were feverish in bed).

We met up in the center of Sourbrodt and started a big walk around the woods of Troupa and the boglands of Nesselo.  The nice blue sky of the previous day was gone and we were treated to a grim grey sky in icy temperatures.  The boys however were having a ball searching for ice, testing the thickness for ice with their own weight (where we allowed them!!) or by throwing natural objects on the ice to break it.  That kept them busy and warm :).

The little Roer partially frozen:

Too bad that the announced snow would only arrive at New Year when we had returned to Leuven.  The little bit of frost did give the boglands this tiny touch of white if you looked well.

Roeren in the Roer river is a must whenever we pass by....

At the monument of the WW aircraft, we shortcutted through the boglands via another trail to avoid the last kilometers through the village. We do prefer staying in the nature as opposed to watching the many gites a bit further.

Well after this good morning walk, we surely had deserved our lunch!
