An early birthday sleepover in the east of Belgium

Beertje had a birthday and after some brainstorm it was suggested that he'd invite his friends over with us in the east of Belgium. His brother had done the same at the same age.  I checked the agenda and there was immediately one and only one perfect weekend: just before his birthday, the last weekend that I had my company car available to drive children up there and a weekend that Kabouter would go to scouts.  Perfect.

Fortunately my sore back had sufficiently improved to drive and so we ended in February up with 6 10-year olds in our little house. Wow, usually I go there to enjoy peace and quiet time but that was hard with so many enthusiast boys in the house.  I apologize to the neighbours :D.  At least they were quiet at night as demanded.

We took them out on a long walk because it would be silly to drive out there and not show the children the typical bogland and forrest landscapes.  We went out for a walk of about 7kms but during the course we spotted the Signal the Botrange. When we pointed out that that was the highest point of Belgium, the boys wanted to go up there. Fair enough, it would add a decent chunck to our walk, but we also could add some catering stops in that case to compensate.

Posing at Belgium's highest point where there was still a pile of snow left from previous weeks.  Brrr, so glad I had forced some of these boys to take their jacket along.

The sugar boost from some pancakes came in time to finish the last stretch of the walk back to our car with renewed energy.

Time for presents.  And then time to clean-up the sleep-over mess on the attic and get ready to return to Leuven again after a fun busy 24 hours.
