The scouting group will finally get new buildings one day
It's been 7 years now that Kabouter joined the neighbourhood scouts in a field in the middle of our residential area. I remember in Feb 2020 there were some big storms and we got a "reassuring" mail from the leaders that afternoon that they would play inside. That was a big surprise as I had never seen them inside the little crooked sheds that were aligned on the edge of the field. Later that afternoon they had also decided that the construction migh not hold against falling trees around and in the end they had played outside after all in the middle of the field trying to stay out of reach of trees.
Every year there were waffle bakes and BBQ's etc to fund the new buildings and those were apperently already long-standing tradition. But the construction never approached...the funding and applying for the right permits (against complaining neighbours) was an endless process.
In the mean time the fire brigade of Leuven had already forbidden all access of their rooms in the last years. Fortunately they had been able to move to some other temporary building in a nearby park further.
You can see it was with disbelief but also a lot of joy that I heard the construction had started. The old buildings had already been demolished for a while but now they had cleared after more than a decade all other hurdles to start building. Yihaa!!!
Mind you : with the increased prices only the budget is available now to do the walls and outsides while the fundraising for all equipment inside continues. So the week after we'd join the yearly BBQ again not just because it's yummie and fun but also to add a bit to the funds needed.
But one day...one day they'll enjoy a safe and good building for their activities.
