On this day: July 15th

2012

This was the first time of our infrequent tradition to sleep in Center Parcs Erperheid to attend to the Blues festival in Peer. It was the most crowded edition when all of our friend's families gathered in a few bungalows. There were plenty of people and plenty of kids. Back then we were in the kids-free bungalow where we could sleep in without kid's noise. Ha things changed.  This year we were the only family staying in Center Parcs which was lovely quiet.

Ah yes, back then Blues Peer was still in the middle of July: now the festival moved to the Pentecost weekend.

2014

Our Texan friends (now living in Maastricht) came to visit us again before they went chasing the Tour de France.  Kabouter got introduced to a viola.

2016:
A little cute Beertje in the house

2017:

Beertje was entertaining grandma well, but seems to have been out of positive energy in the evening.

2018:
Belgium was also in a wave of world cup fever. We were a little more succesful than this year as we had reached for the 2nd time in our history the semi-finals.  I watched the celebrations of their return in Brussels on tv, knowing some of my colleagues were in the crowd.

In the mean time 2 toddlers are playing nicely in the garden in the east of Belgium

2019:

Kabouter got his face painted at the playground I assume.

2020:

My sister and her family came to stay at our house in the east of Belgium in order to have a get-away during the pandemic.

2021:
A catastrophic day in Belgium.  After days of downpour rivers overflood and flashflood , destructing houses on its way. We lost a lot of lives.
In the morning we didn't know yet how bad it would get and the children were posing how well equiped they were to the eternal rain with their boots and rain jackets before they went to the playground services (to play inside there).

5 years later we still drive along one of the most damaged areas in the east of Belgium ... most of the houses and roads now seem renovated but 2 business are still under renovation.  I will not lightly forget this day and the images of people on roofs waiting to be rescued...

2022:
Our roof in the east of Belgium is getting isolated and redone...Rodin is very alert because of the strange noise.

We go play some minigolf to not disturb the works

2023:
There's always beach volleyball championships downtown in Leuven mid-July.   A nice summer vibe to hang out.

2024:
When half of the team at work got Covid...I got it too.  Fun to spend summer in bed. At least Rodin kept me company.  The goodnight hugs were waved from distance.

2025:
We're packing the suitcases for the upcoming scouting camp... if the theme is Camping Kitsch than we totally go for kitch.
