Discovering the Warchenne valley

Since we have a new map of the newly signed walks in the town, we all of a sudden discover a loop from the city center. In 10 years it has never crossed our mind to go walking in the city center  assuming that it is a urban area with not much too discover unless you want to stare at the front lawns of the houses.  And yet there was a walk for the Warchenne valley, which crosses the city center indeed.

So at the start of the month during our autumn vacation in the east of Belgium, we parked our car at the main church, next to one of the bank offices and started walking along the pharmacy and bakery and restaurant to turn off in a residential street.  We zigzagged a bit along the houses but after a while we reached some villa's that had a gorgeous view on a hidden valley.   Field roads took us along.

After a while we descended to the Ravel bike road, which we followed for a while to cross the Warchenne river. After that we left the Ravel again and started climbing up the hill along a forest road.  We discovered fresh beaver activity which was pretty awesome. The climb right after was a little less awesome. Auch.

Then we arrived on the other side of town closeby our favourite fries shop. So weird to be there in the fields now. It took a bit more country roads to redescend to the Ravel and arrive back in town.  Cool new discovery!
