Our birthday boy

Our Kabouter turned 9 lately.  Unfortunately, both myself as Jan had to be away for work that day but he took our absence graciously with understanding.

He got treated with many cakes from the bakery to treat his friends at school...yeah right, his teacher had instructed all parents that "preferably self-baked treats" were chosen for birthdays in order to avoid any packaging as they are getting instructed on eco-awareness.  Well, I was solo-parenting that week and I don't bake, so we went to shop in a bakery.  When we arrived at school she claimed "oh you should not have done that , you could have bought a giant M&M bag from which we all scooped.  Hmm, I was rolling my eyes.  She did only tell about 10 times to the children and sent slides home about the self-baked treats rule...and in eco-awareness, I don't think M&M's are a healthy alternative. Oh well... the children enjoyed the pile of bakery pies.

With a day delay, we gave the birthday boy some needed attention. My sister, his godmother, also came by for some extra hugs and Jan arrived home jet legged from the US but with a big LEGO box in his suitcase.

The Lego box got action right away.

Oh and on his birthday itself, he got spoiled by our best friends where he had a sleepover with pancakes.  So in the end I don't think he suffered from our absence too much.
