What we did during our (sick/indoor) Christmas vacation

We were less active in our Christmas break than intended because the children both battled their own set of virusses and the weather just sucked.

So I must admit: we've watched tv a lot and the children have had way more screentime than they should have.

But such a Christmas vacation is also the best moment to dig up games that we really don't play often enough. So what did we play?

Exploding kittens:
A game our friend Yab introduced us and since she beats us regularly we can take some practise to stand up to her next time ;).  Thanks to my sister, we know have a set of cards in the east of Belgium as well as in Leuven.  So exploding kittens everywhere.

Cucaracha
A board game with a thrilling bug that tries to find its way through a maze.   it was on Beertjes Sinterklaas wishlist but arrived as a Christmas gift from us...and fortunately it's more fun as an adult than I feared. It's just noisy because of this battery powered bug which literally thrills itself through the board.

Nintendo Switch Sports

Beertje and I rule in bowling competitions.

Rail tracks:
Beertje's all time favourite is still the rail tracks on the attic. Unfortunately he doesn't want to play on his own and we are not so much into sitting on our knees for a long time on the floor, to move a little wooden train around.

Pictures
The camera of the ipads still functions when they run out of screentime. That delivers a lot of goofy gems in the picture stream.

Cooking and baking:
Anything that says more Christmas time as cooking together?

A Science lab
Since Beertje aspires to become a scientist later on, we've given him a science test set and executed some easy tests together. Unfortunately, none of them take long, so I am actually dragging them and spreading the tests out in time so we are not done and over with this box right away.

Pokémon Go:
The children aren't into it very much anymore but I've basically ordered to go on some tiny neighbourhood walks with me to get out of the house shortly and catch some fresh air and then it's still a nice activity.

Dressing up
Boredome is great to all of a sudden start doing things again that were forgotten for a long time.  I was so happy to all of a sudden some knights rushing through the house.

Grizzly Gear:
A thinking game from smart games that allows children to play on their own.  It's fun for a short while but after a few assignments, it tends to get boring ...which is fine.

Ik zie je wel Jungle

We have received this game from friends last year. The concept is easy as hell: you draw a little picture of one of the 300 animals and you try to find it the quickest on the big board. But it's fun and keeps entertaining all ages for a while. You can play a bit on your own or with multiple for as long as you want and then you stop. It's a big search puzzle.

Kiekeboe

Another card game, which is something Beertje truly enjoys playing. It is a sort of memory game where cards shuffle all the time under 7 farm themes and you need to memorize the fasted against the others which card is where.   I have no picture even though we played it a couple of times and I enjoyed it.
