Unexpected meeting with the police

Last Wednesday, Kabouter had to return home on his own after the judo class but he was escorted home by the police. ... And now you all think "Oops, what did he do". But he didn't do anything, he just happened to have bad timing to come home. Right at the moment his judo class was over, I hear a lot of rubble outside. I grumbled "ugh stupid drunk students" as the university opened this week and the first weeks the students seem usually at their loudest and most drunk. But when I looked in the hallway through our front door window, I see some sort of fight but a clear orange shirt with the word "POLICE" on the back passing in front of the window. Ugh, what?

So I approach and see at 1m in front of me some police officers trying to pull away a bike and control a detainee? More police agents show up, and they lay on top of the detainee, trying to control and calm him.
Police seems to flood in from everywhere in seconds...not hard if we live at 300 m of the main regional police station. I think in the end there were like 8 officers piling up on the floor and some detectives with flashlights circling while I hear sirens and whistles on the street.

I curse as I know Kabouter has to get home any minute, so I stay at the lookout behind our front door.

And then I spot a big motor police man armed with a tiny white judo boy walking by in a circle around the police action at our door. I see Kabouter throwing a worried/ confused look at our door when they actually walk by our home. At that point I dear to pull our door open and say "that's my son, he lives here". The police man pushes him inside quickly and comes in to tell us all will be alright and that it's fine. He introduces himself by his name, has a nice empathic interaction with us and tells us we can phone the police and ask for him if we do not feel fine later on. I thought that was really sweet and attentive. While the police clearly had their hands full on some sort of event outside, someone of them took the time to bring Kabouter home and reassure him. We were fine and never phoned and outside the arrest got finished, the detainee probably loaded in a police car and a few minutes later the street was empty again. Kabouter spotted that the invervention in fact had not lasted long, so if ever in the situation again, he could also wait it out at distance. I got info from someone working at the police that they really appreciate positive mails, as they are rare , and post them on their intranet. So I gladly sent a thank you mail and got confirmation that our little story is on their intranet now. Cool.
