The 5 beech walk in Heverleebos on a gorgeous autumn day

We had a lot of appointments on the long Remembrance weekend, so we couldn't get to the east of Belgium. But I really wanted to do a walk in the woods.  So when a friend proposed to meet, I asked if she was up for the same.   We only could on Remembrance day in the morning, but that was the best idea since by noon all parking lots were hopelessly full.

Both our families joined up at the edge of the woods near the arboretum, and we started the '5 beuken' walk. This forest is since a year officially part of a new Belgian National Park and it's part of Leuven.   It was fairly cold and I started of with a nice scarf and hat, but after a while the sun started peeking and our swift pace made me comfortably warm.

The scenery was just gorgeous and perfect. Just sublime as you'd wish for an autumn walk.   There was the right amount of leaves on the ground to give it a nice deep colour, but there was still plenty of coloured leaves on the trees as well. It hadn't rained a lot, so it wasn't too muddy either. We couldn't have found a more perfect moment. And I must say: this would with its colourchanging leaves was nicer than some of the pine woods in the east of Belgium.

The 3 friends took the lead and we just shouted the numbers of the itinerary to seek towards them while we adults strolled in the back and caught up for a few hours.  We didn't tell the boys but we had quickly changed our plan to do a smaller walk and turned it into an 8 km loop.

Some pines near Vaalbeek gave me a Mediterranean vibe.

We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice hot drink after the walk but the brasserie was all ready for lunch and we decided to just hang out and enjoy some food together before we all had to go to our other appointments.
