Walking above the limestone cliffs at Ault
Just before New Year we headed out for another walk. As some of you pointed out: the countryside around our gite itself wasn't too attractive and we had already visited the Somme bay, so this time we drove up to the Channel coast. Just north of the bay and Cayeux-sur-Mer, we knew coastline has impressive limestone cliffs.
One of our friends found a nice Koomoot walk and so we parked at about 5 kms from Ault and started our walk. It was high tide so the water hit the cliffs but the walk as above those cliffs. However, the landscape is impressive and hilly and touched by erosion. As a result, it has some pretty difficult steep descents and climbs where we had to help each other. (the pictures don't truly show it). We had mocked the arrows that had pointed and predicted we'd walk at an incredibly slow pace, but it was a good prediction.
One of our friends with a knee injury abandoned us returned fairly quickly, and I was also a bit afraid of what my knee would do. If I had realized beforehand, I would have put my brace on, but in the end my knee held it very well.
And it was gorgeous!
And it was fun!
