School party
The date was already marked in the agenda at the start of the year and quite quickly it seemed incompatible with other opportunities: a judo training weekend or a scouting weekend. But it was clear to Kabouter: none of those he would do because this was his last school party in the elementary school so he had to go to the school party.
We rolled our eyes a bit as their school parties are in fact not much activity (part of why I love them): the parents chill with a glass together and the children race around and play.

This year there was a "pelgrim's walk" organised around the abbey but we all opted out. I don't think we can discover much anymore around the abbey and I just wanted to relax and chill as I needed down-time and Kabouter and Beertje just wanted to find their friends to goof around. So we claimed one of the many empty tables, settled down and soon were surrounded by many other parents from their respective classes.
We sat, we drank, I promised to do a double working shift at the bar next year as I had skipped all helping duties this year, we talked...and sat down as the hours passed. We discussed the transition to high school with all the others, as the choice had just landed in everybody's mailbox 2 days ago.
And Kabouter's class...seemed like a homogeneous group for the first time. The awareness of them being seniors in the school but splitting up and getting scattered over all the Leuven high schools in a few weeks, seems to make them all of a sudden nostalgic and close. It's weird and touching to see that transition happening to them.
At the end of the date there was a very lame little dance that had to be performed... That was new and I hope not to be repeated next year. And then we called it a day and went home to rest a bit more over there.
