Domaine de Bérizinne and the fagne de Malchamps

In the crocus vacation we wanted to explore something new and Jan came up with the Domaine de Bérizinne in Spa.  It boasts a museum, boglands with trails, a cafetaria and a lookout tower.   Off we went. 

We first visited the museum that is filled with stuffed wild animals, info on the local nature landscapes and Natura2000 programs etc.  It was quite interesting. 

After a good hour, we left for the cafetaria at the other building...turns out that the cafetaria is just a room with tables where you can by Spa drinks or a Royco powder soup. Hmmm ...probably good for school groups that want to picknick but I had interpreted cafetaria on the website as something with a lunch offer.  

With just some powder soup in my stomach, we left for a walk on the boglands of Fagne de Malchamps. It was fun and weird to be on the familiar landscapes yet not in our town.  But it was lovely. 

We climbed the look-out tower to look at the town of Spa in the valley, the valley of the Polleur along the highway and then the rise of the Botrange and Belgium's highest point at the horizon. 

Mid afternoon we left, and stopped a bit further for a late lunch at the Spa water Source of Géronstère, which has a bistro and restaurant next door .
