Our most favourite Texan friends were visiting again

Part of all the World Championship cycling fun, was the visit of our Texan friends whome we've met through their love for road cycling (and hence their vacations in Europe to follow the Tour de France, Amster Gold Race, Luik-Bastenaken-Luik, ...) .   We met thanks to a blogging friend 11 years ago and he was one of our first guests in the east of Belgium ...and thanks to cycling we kept on meeting even though we usually didn't attend and follow any of the races they did.

So it had been announced a few years ago that Leuven would be hosting the world championship, they claimed our guest room right away. And when we found out 2 years ago that the finish would be in eyesight from our house, they were the first to know.

The last time we met was in Maastricht in 2019, a city they clearly loved.  And then there was Covid and months of chatting about vaccination levels in the US and in Belgium and travel restrictions.  But it all worked out.

While they were here, the news came in I should stop calling them our Texan friends. The relocation that had been requested 9 months before, just got approved and so we could celebrate their move to Maastricht in a few months.  Holy cow, what a news we had to celebrate.

We all enjoyed the view from the guest room during a couple of days where Q, as professional viola player serenaded to the riders.

And also the children got to test the famous viola once, which is filled with signatures of famous cyclers...among other the 2020 - 2021 world champion Julien Alaphilippe!  I must say Kabouter's play improved since 2014, but he would still need quite some lessons.
